My beautiful old dictionary: Funk and Wagnalls, 1945. Crowley’s “dictionary,” meanwhile, is the pathetically slim little tome by Ambrose Bierce. It’s not without its charms, but it is useless as a reference. It doesn’t even have the word “ineffable.”
